PIROTO - 1972-2006

1972

The Company was founded in an ex-grocery shop in Fulham. Second offices and factory were on the same estate as the Rolls Royce Corniche factory and close to Wormwood Scrubs Prison.

1975

In April a brief was issued to convert the Company into an industrial Labelling operation, and in July the Company changed its name to “PIROTO LABELLING LIMITED”.

The word PIROTO came from a range of over-printing machines manufactured by Pilot, France:
PI from PILOT and ROTO from ROTATIF (ROTARY).

1979

Piroto Labelling Limited moved to new premises in Round Spinney, Northampton.

1987

The Inglis family acquired the Company and a strategy was developed to teach ourselves FLEXO printing and to be independent of Pilot’s Gravure machines within 2 years.

1988

The first 250mm wide press was purchased this year.

1989

The first 330mm wide press (the first press with more than 4 colours) was purchased this year.

1992

Piroto obtained approved supplier status for swing tickets, tray cards and labels to Marks and Spencer garment manufacturers.

1993

A full management information system (M.I.S.) was introduced.

1994-6

Piroto sees 50% growth.

1999

Moved to new purpose-built premises in Pondwood Close, Northampton. A huge team effort ensured a trouble-free move.

2001

Achieved the Investors in People award and also achieved approved supplier status from ASTRA ZENECA for Clinical Trial Labels.

2002

Celebrated 30 years in business and 15 years as an independent Company.

2003

After working for Piroto for 14 years, Leigh Mann and his family acquired the Company.

2004

Digital revolution! At the end of 2004 a vast investment was made with the installation of a Variable Printing System. Installation was completed ahead of schedule, including our operators receiving training in the USA. The addition of this equipment has enabled us to offer yet another new dimension in the continuing expansion of our printing capabilities, including sequential numbering and bar-coding.

This year Piroto recorded an increase in Euro sales which included contracts from 2 EU countries. After unsuccessfully trying out our competitors both companies approached Piroto where they knew quality was assured.
Our ongoing press replacement and upgrade investment programme sees the installation of the very latest UV technology.
2005

Piroto win many more contracts to supply labels and tags to the major food manufacturing groups, supplying the top supermarkets.

2006

Kaizen rules! Initially introduced to Piroto in 2002, Kaizen (Japanese for "improvement") is based on their philosophy, which focuses on continuous improvement.  During 2006 a record number of 74 Kaizens were initiated by the Piroto Team, creating an estimated annual saving of 1,706 hours.

2007

Euro Sales increase again!  Piroto previously in 2005 negotiated a 3 year contract with an EU Company to supply the region with 6 million tags a year. In March 2007 this contract was renewed and Piroto have retained the business through to 2009.

After completing a successful assessment in July 2007, Piroto are once again proud to announce continued recognition and re-accreditation with Investors in People.

2008 Established in 1972, incorporation of Piroto Labelling Limited on the 29th January 1973 sees us celebrating 35 years in the industry. Having seen many changes over the years, one thing which has not changed is Piroto’s philosophy of continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.

Piroto cleans up its act!  Off press cleaning equipment is installed to help improve print quality and reduce wash up time. An additional investment sees the installation of a Cold Foiling Unit (to apply high quality gold, silver or holographic metallic effects).

Second variable printing line added to increase capacity.

September 2008 - Rolling 12 month sales hit £4 Million!

Piroto undertake project to create a secure “Pharma” finishing unit, operating to GMP standards (Good Manufacturing Practice), which incorporates an investment of over £40,000 in a 100% print inspection camera system.
2009

After the “credit crunch” came a recession and Customers take advantage of the Piroto Business Improvement Plan! By re-designing and sourcing alternative materials, Piroto assist customers in reducing their costs, helping them through the tough times ahead.

2009 welcomed 6 new employees to the team, with 2 internal promotions!

A message from Leigh Mann – Managing Director

Our ingenuity, knowledge, enthusiasm and willingness to invest for our customers will determine the future of Piroto. With dedication and on-going investment, Piroto will always be amongst the top performers in our industry.
